SUMMARY:Tim Williams . Paul Pigat Live in the CommonUNITY Sunday\, August 18 2024
DESCRIPTION:Tim Williams and Paul Pigat\nFamily Friendly Community Live Music\nSunday\, August 18th\, 20243:00p Show / 2:30p Doors & food$25 Cover incl food \nCHC welcomes Tim and Paul to the “House” for another shared afternoon of music. Come on along! \n  \nCANADIAN BLUES AND ROOTS ARTIST TIM WILLIAMSA producer/performer on four JUNO-nominated projects\nTim Williams is one of our favorite local icons that has privileged us numerous times over the years. His 36 year career and constant work in the Calgary music industry is inspirational for so many. Always such a pleasure to share an afternoon with one of my favorite local celebrity musicians that has been such a key builder of the music scene in Calgary & huge part of developing live spaces that we enjoy today. \nAmerican born\, long time Canadian blues and roots artist Tim Williams began his career with Epic Records for whom he recorded his first LP in 1968 (Blues Full Circle\, featuring Pee Wee Crayton and George “Harmonica” Smith in the backing band\, and produced by Chris Strachwitz). \nHis return to full-time performing began with his appearance at the 1988 Edmonton Folk Festival\, where he wowed every audience he played to\, won praise from folks like Jimmy Dale Gilmore\, and was re-united with old pal Tom Russell. Since then it’s been a steady stream of tours\, recordings\, and interesting side projects. A producer/performer on four JUNO-nominated projects (Triple Threat\, Little Miss Higgins\, Ray Bonneville\, and Williams\, Wayne & Isaak) and perhaps forty others\, plus over a dozen solo and side group cds\, Tim remains an active session musician and occasional producer. Skilled craftsman on dobro\, banjo\, mandolin\, and harmonica he is a busy session musician with a full schedule of club gigs\, open mics\, recording sessions and concert dates. \nPAUL PIGATBlessed with a jazz man’s sheen\, a rockabilly heart and a hobo’s soul\nThrilled to have Paul stop in for a first visit here at CHC and with Tim Williams on the stage together is going to be makes a recipe for a great afternoon shared with these Storyteller/Singer\,Songwriters/Performers. Come on along! \nYou’d never think it to look at Paul Pigat\, but behind that unassuming grin and underneath those Doc Watson glasses lurks one of the most restless\, combustible musical imaginations ever crammed like so much canned heat into a single body. Blessed with a jazz man’s sheen\, a rockabilly heart and a hobo’s soul\, there aren’t many genres of music that don’t pull at Pigat’s wayfaring imagination like a magnet. In many ways\, it’s a mystery why Paul Pigat isn’t a household name yet. Maybe he’d be a lot easier to pin down if he wasn’t so darn good at so many different things. \nPaul has shared the stage and lent his guitar mastery to some fine musicians over the years such as Jeff Beck\, Jackob Dylan\, Michael Kaeshammer\, Albert Lee\, James Burton\, Brian Setzer\, The Reverend Horton Heat\, Neko Case\, Jim Byrnes\, The Sojourners\, Carolyn Mark… this list could go on and on! \nWebsite: paulpigat.com \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $25 TicketsSelect Ticket Quantity and Checkout: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Out of stock \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Concert scheduled atCalgary House Concerts. Hope to see you then!!\nCHC welcomes Braden Gates return to the “House” for another shared afternoon of his soulful music.Come on along! \nAbout Braden Gates \nBraden Gates is a young man\, which may come as a surprise to anyone who has heard his brand of classic foot stompin’\, fiddle playin’\, guitar pickin’ folk. It would be easy to stereotype Gates as an old soul\, but despite his love of traditional folk instrumentation and songwriting and old timey stage clothes\, Gates’ sound carries a youthful feel and never feels affected or inauthentic. Through the ease with which he bows his fiddle and picks his guitar\, and the straightforward uncluttered honesty of his lyrics\, Gates has a natural way with a story. \nWebsite: www.bradengates.com \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $25 Tickets\nSelect Ticket Quantity and Checkout: \n \n \n \n \n \n Concert scheduled atCalgary House Concerts. SUMMARY:Joe Nolan - WEATHER DELAY - March 3rd
DESCRIPTION:Joe Nolan\n   POSTPONED                Due to weather\nAlthough some are loving the new snow and return to winter unfortunately we are forced to postpone and reschedule our pal Joe Nolan that was to be playing for this afternoon will now be postponed to a later date. \nJoe lives in Edmonton and there is always another day to gather instead of Joe making the trek and then return with questionable road conditions. New date with Joe s YTD and I will start processing refunds on Monday. \nIncase you wanted to help Joe on his album build project that end in a couple of weeks here is his link: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/joe-nolan-love-in-the-new-world#/ \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nJoe Nolan\, named by The Globe and Mail as “An Americana wunderkind to look out for\,” shares Lost Verses\, his seventh album – and fifth in just five years – through Fallen Tree Records. It will be available exclusively at Bandcamp on October 31\, and on all digital platforms from December 16. \nThe dozen songs on Lost Verses grew from notes collected in Nolan’s most private journals\, revealing the inner thoughts of a prolific artist who expresses longing\, love and remorse with powerful melodies\, primarily picked on his signature parlour guitar. During Nolan’s illustrious career he’s recorded with JUNO award winning producers Colin Linden and Hawksley Workman\, won several Cobalt Prize songwriting awards at the Maple Blues Awards\, earned a handful of BreakOut West nominations\, as well as a Canadian Folk Music Award nod for Contemporary Roots Album Of The Year for his 2020 release\, Drifters. \nInfluenced by roots-music gentry like Leonard Cohen\, Patti Smith\, Bruce Springsteen\, Lucinda Williams and Bob Dylan\, Nolan reflects on his vagabond lifestyle that takes him from his hometown city of Edmonton\, to festivals and venues spread throughout Canada’s peaks and valleys. A typical year will see him playing anywhere from 150 – 200 shows; he is a true workhorse and road dog. \nOften framed as a lone wolf\, Nolan self-produced Lost Verses\, but called upon some friends to elevate the album. Key tracks feature Sarah Pagé on harp (Leif Vollebekk\, The Barr Brothers)\, LA’s COULOU on trumpet and sister Nataya Nolan on background vocals. \nOpening a journal can uncloak the deepest emotions buried inside. On Lost Verses\, Joe Nolan let’s us in through these twelve stories of broken lovers\, speeding cars and critical\, honest personal contemplation\, as he meditates on life’s meaning through\, what he calls that mist of uncertainty\, “cigarette skies.” \nThe lasting effect is a heart-wrenching and utterly inspired recording\, and a guarantee that these Lost Verses will not be buried again. \nLinks:\nWebsite: https://www.joenolanmusic.com \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n WEATHER DELAY \n \n \n \n \n \n				        Concert scheduled atCalgary House Concerts. SUMMARY:Ollee Owens: Sunday October 16 2022
DESCRIPTION:Ollee Owens – SOLD OUT\nWith a lyrical mastery that speaks on all of life’s moments paired with a dynamic voice that reveals a well-travelled soul and the burning embers of passion within\, Ollee Owens is a musical force of nature. Combining burning intensity with elegant grace and skilled composure wrapped in an electrifying blues rock veneer\, the result is an unforgettable\, emotionally charged musical experience that moves both body and soul\, creating a lasting connection through shared experiences and love of good music. \nRaised in the Canadian Prairies\, music was always around Owens growing up. Artists such as Elvis\, Odetta\, The Band\, Mavis Staples\, and Bob Dylan were formative in her teen years. But more than just listening\, she took comfort in writing her own songs\, seeing music as a way to process the chaotic nature of life and give visibility to her own feelings. And even when Owens took a 15-year respite in order to raise a family\, she never fully put a cap on her passion for music\, volunteering as a music therapist\, occasionally performing\, and always continuing to write songs. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $20 TicketsSOLD OUT: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Out of stock \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n That hiatus would meet its end in 2015 at the famed Calgary venue The Blues Can where the late great Bill Dowey caught her performance at his “Blues Sunday School” jam and was immediately drawn to her raw and passionate sound\, becoming one of her biggest supporters. Encouraged by the positive reception from audience and industry pros alike\, Owens decided to pursue her dream of a career in music. \nAnd that career kicked off in a big way for Owens\, performing at countless community and private events\, sharing the stage with the best and brightest of the local music scene\, and travelling the provinces to play on small stages and amphitheatres. Her 2021 breakout single “Every Step of the Way”\, firmly set her intentions as a talented artist who deals in authenticity\, openness\, and honesty paving the way for a lasting musical connection. \nOwens’ upcoming album due for release this summer\, Cannot Be Unheard\, is an exploration of life birthed from her own relatable experiences\, both good and bad\, and the lessons learned along the way. With the rock-tinged reckoning of knowing there’s something more out there in Edge of Goodbye\, the smouldering warning of thoughtless words in Raging Fire\, and the soulful declaration of love in Through the Darkest Night\, the songs in Cannot Be Unheard touch on Owens’ ethos of moving through the world with intention\, love\, and the affirmation that one is worthy of the happiness that life offers. \nEager to keep moving forward\, Owens plans to hit the road following the release\, performing at more festivals and concerts throughout the country while setting her sights towards her next album. \nMusic does so much more than entertain. It gives a voice to a wide breadth of experiences and feelings\, touching those looking for a connection. It has the power to heal wounds and be a welcoming source of light and comfort in the darkness. It’s for all those reasons and more that Ollee Owens keeps singing\, lighting the path for her fellow travellers on the long road of life. \nOutdoor concert scheduled at Calgary House Concerts Boulton Road location \n2022 Lawnchair Series #5 with Ollee Owens@ “The House” 3344 Boulton Road NW\, Calgary\nSunday October 16\, 2022 @ 3:00 PMDoors at 2:30pm$20 CoverGrab a ticket or RSVP to: calgaryhouseconcerts@gmail.com \nLinks:\nWebsite: olleeowens.comSpotify: open.spotify.comFacebook: facebook.com/OlleeOwensInstagram: instagram.com/OlleeOwensTwitter: twitter.com/OlleeOwensYoutube: youtube.com

SUMMARY:Ken Stead: Thursday September 15 2022
DESCRIPTION:Ken Stead\nKen Stead already has a firm foothold in the Canadian roots community\, having graced the grassy stages and sessions of Edmonton Folk Fest\, Canmore Folk Fest\, and North Country Fair\, as well as rowdier venues like Main Stage Big Valley Jamboree\, the Calgary Stampede Coke Stage and Wild Mountain Festival. Whether playing solo\, or with his 5 piece band\, Ken Stead makes every room feel like home. A generous demeanor\, a delicate wit\, and an empathetic understanding of audiences of all shapes\, his performances are as true and honest as the songs themselves. \nKen is known for silencing a room to a whisper\, but with his new release\, Civil War\, he proves capable of starting an uproar. With more volume\, comes more space to make heartfelt moments rattle through your chest. Guitars\, bass and drums punctuate charged lyricism and lived experience. It’s full and dynamic roots rock\, with an emphasis on connecting with an audience\, born from Stead’s keen musical interest in both folk and hip hop. \nProduced by Winston Hauschild (Hannah Georgas\, Hey Ocean)\, and mixed by Canadian legend Howie Beck (Barenaked Ladies\, Feist\, Walk Off The Earth)\, Civil War is an earnest portrait of the domestic\, the conflicts present in the everyday\, and how one’s struggle with themselves and their own faults bleed into their relationships with others\, how that mirrors the larger political climate. Throughout the record\, Stead grapples with his firm belief that peace begins with the individual. “Trouble” is a song that combines roots rock with 80’s synth danceability. With the grit and strength in Ken’s voice\, he captures the moment you realize you’re in some sort of trouble\, but knowing that trouble is exactly what you’re looking for. Tracks like “I’m Done Trying” are strong and self-critical\, pining to understand the other with empathy and the earned conviction of its power-chords. “Why You Afraid Of The Dark” is a roots/soul song tackling the fear of facing the hard times with soulful piano\, groovy rhythms\, and a hook that will having you singing along. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Pre-Purchase Your Tickets:$20 (incl Dinner)\nKen Stead LIVETHURSDAY SEPT 15thShowtime 7:00p / Doors 6:30pCHC Brentwood “The House”3344 BOULTON ROAD NW – T2L 1M4OUTSIDE CONCERTIndoors if inclement weather \nSecure Checkout via Stripe or PaypalSelect Ticket Quantity: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Out of stock \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Outdoor concert scheduled at Calgary House Concerts Boulton Road location \n2022 Lawnchair Series with Ken Stead@ “The House” 3344 Boulton Road NW\, Calgary\nThursday September 15\, 2022 @ 7:00 PMDoors at 6:30pm$20 CoverGrab a ticket or RSVP to: calgaryhouseconcerts@gmail.com \nLinks:\nWebsite: www.kenstead.netReverbNation: www.reverbnation.com/kensteadYouTube: www.youtube.com/channel/UCU6eVXNb2MHE5IuHuNxTc-w/videosFacebook: www.facebook.com/pages/Ken-Stead/129609523882224

SUMMARY:Heartwood: Sunday June 26
DESCRIPTION:Heartwood\nJack Connolly and Genevieve Charbonneau\nHoney-soaked folk with a hint of indi and a splash of bluegrass\, Heartwood radiates exuberant joy with every irresistible song. From the hearth of their rural Pacific northwest homestead Jack Connolly and Genevieve Charbonneau serve up the pulse and passion of rollicking recession laments\, driving celtic love songs and witty (and ironic) debates on the ways they don’t go together. Their quirky naturalness\, endearing humor and raw talent stir affection and warm the blood while their powerful roots draw up a nutrient rich brew of sound bringing warmth and energy to all who gather around the table to listen. \nWhen Jack and Genevieve met in 2018\, Jack was a rising country star playing stages with Tom Cochrane and Colin James\, and Genevieve was a homesteading mama who had recently won the BC Songwriting Competition\, but as soon as they sang together they knew their lives were changed. Jack offered to produce Genevieve’s “Heart is a Tower” album\, which reached #15 in the NA Folk Charts. Inspired by that project\, they cooked up the Heartwood duo\, finding immense joy in singing harmonies and playing on each other’s songs. \nOutdoor concert scheduled at Calgary House Concerts Boulton Road location \n2022 Lawnchair Series #3 with Heartwood \nSunday June 26\, 2022 @ 2:30 PM $20 CoverGrab a ticket or RSVP to: calgaryhouseconcerts@gmail.com \n \n \n \n \n \n Lawnchair Series #3:   “The House” 3344 Boulton Road NW\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $20 TicketsSelect Ticket Quantity and Checkout: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n \n \n porch-dogs-live-chc quantity\n	\n	\n\n Go To Checkout\n\n \n \n Buy with

SUMMARY:Das Corazones: Sunday August 29
DESCRIPTION:Das Corazones\nThe Corazones are a versatile roots-rock band based in Calgary Alberta. These guys pour their heart into every performance. The Corazones’ songs draw inspiration from those mornings when you want to kiss the beautiful person you woke up next to\, but have yet to gargle with mouthwash. They write songs about small towns\, love\, loneliness\, and coffee. Actually\, a lot of songs about coffee. They spent serious amounts of time learning to recreate the squeaks and hums from those 70’s albums you love so that they can make songs that make you want to dance while somehow also leaving you with the desire to slam your bedroom door\, put on your headphones\, and wait for your parents to figure out where they went wrong. The Corazones love 60’s funk\, 70’s folk\, Canadiana and all the noise in between. While their shows are powerfully fun and light-hearted\, their lyrics poetically examine the beautiful intricacies of life\, love\, family\, and song. They want to invite you to come see them play live. You’ll probably want to dance. If they’re playing outside your kids will dance and you’ll realize it’s way more fun if you join them. They’ll play a bunch of songs that you know you like\, some songs you kinda remember liking the one time you heard them\, and lots of songs that you may never have heard before\, but that you’d like to have around so you can hear them again. Don might even tell his joke. Make sure to talk to them after the show too. They’re good like that. Clayton can tell you about the new song he wrote during the performance\, Matt could use a hand loading up\, and Dennis has an innate ability to find a dram of good scotch pretty much anywhere someone is breathing air. They’re good at making people wish they’d invited that other friend who would have really liked the show. Lucky for them\, you’ll have lots of chances to do just that.Outdoor Lawnchair series – Stageless LIVE Performance \nCommunity Greenspace-Bring smiles\, lawnchair\, water & hat \nBest air quality  and “Calgary’s largest natural dancefloor” \nSunday August 29 @ 2 PM$5 Ticket Holds – PWC at the show \nRSVP to:   calgaryhouseconcerts@gmail.com \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $5 Seat Hold (limited seating)Select Ticket Quantity and Checkout: \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Out of stock
