Calgary House Concerts is proud to present the first visit of JUNO Nominee Corin Raymond or a special afternoon performance as part of our Live in the Community series.

There are songwriters who write great songs, storytellers who can hold a room, and performers who make an audience feel as though everyone has somehow ended up together around the same kitchen table.

Corin Raymond manages to be all three.

Calgary House Concerts is delighted to welcome Corin Raymond to the Glendale & Glendale Meadows Community Association on Sunday, September 20, 2026, for an afternoon of songs, stories, humour, heart and community.

Doors open at 2:30 PM, with the show beginning at 3:00 PM.

Corin is a Canadian singer-songwriter and storyteller whose music is filled with characters, places, conversations and those small moments of everyday life that somehow turn into great stories. He has a remarkable ability to find something meaningful in the ordinary — and then turn it into a song you remember long after the evening is over.

His performances aren’t simply a collection of songs played one after another. The stories between the songs are part of the experience. Corin is funny, thoughtful and wonderfully comfortable with an audience, creating the kind of connection that can only happen when live music is experienced up close.

That makes him a particularly natural fit for Calgary House Concerts.

A Celebrated Canadian Songwriter

Corin’s work has earned recognition throughout Canada’s roots and folk music community.

His album Hobo Jungle Fever Dreams received a JUNO Award nomination for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year, while his songwriting has travelled well beyond his own recordings.

Songs written by Corin have been recorded by artists including The Good Lovelies, The Strumbellas, Dustin Bentall, and The Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer.

But awards and credits only tell part of the story.

What has built Corin’s following over the years is his ability to connect with people. His songs can be funny without becoming novelty songs, serious without becoming heavy, and deeply personal while still leaving enough room for listeners to recognize pieces of their own lives in them.

There is generosity in the way he performs. You don’t feel as though you’re watching someone deliver a rehearsed presentation from a distant stage. You feel included in the conversation.

The Canadian Tire Money Story

And then there is the Canadian Tire money.

It’s difficult to tell the story of Corin Raymond without mentioning one of the most unusual chapters in Canadian independent music.

After Corin discovered that a Toronto recording studio would accept Canadian Tire money toward recording costs, he mentioned it during his shows.

People started giving him their Canadian Tire bills.

Then more arrived.

And more.

Fans mailed them from across Canada. People brought envelopes to concerts. Collections that had been sitting in drawers and glove compartments suddenly found a purpose.

What began as a funny story became something much larger — a grassroots demonstration of people getting behind an independent Canadian artist.

The story became connected with Corin’s ambitious Paper Nickels project and remains a wonderful example of the unusual relationship he has developed with his audiences.

It’s funny, unmistakably Canadian and somehow perfectly suited to Corin Raymond.

Songs, Stories, Humour and Heart

For this Calgary House Concerts performance, expect an afternoon where the distance between performer and audience becomes very small.

There will be songs.

There will be stories.

There will almost certainly be laughter.

And there will be those quieter moments when a room full of people suddenly becomes completely still because everyone is listening to the same lyric.

That’s what intimate live music can do.

It’s also what Calgary House Concerts has always been about: bringing exceptional artists into welcoming community spaces where people can actually listen, meet one another and share the experience together.

You don’t need to already know Corin’s music to come.

Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item in support of the Veterans Association Food Bank.

It’s a simple idea: gather people together for a great afternoon of music and use that gathering to do a little extra good in the community at the same time.

This concert continues the Calgary House Concerts Food Bank Booster series. Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation in support of local community food programs, with a portion benefiting the Veterans Association Food Bank. Through these gatherings, music becomes more than performance — it becomes a way to strengthen neighbourhood connection and support food security together.

This concert takes place in a warm, community-based listening-room setting where music is meant to be felt, not just heard. Whether you’re a longtime fan of blues music or discovering JW Jones for the first time, this is an afternoon designed for connection — between artist, audience, and community.
