Jay Coda Walker returns to Calgary House Concerts on Sunday, April 19, and we’re truly looking forward to welcoming him back to the CHC community.
Jay is a roots-driven singer-songwriter whose music blends folk storytelling, blues grit, Americana warmth, and a touch of rockabilly rhythm that brings lift and movement to the room. His songs feel lived-in, honest, and unforced — delivered with the steady confidence of an artist who has spent years shaping his craft in front of real audiences. He doesn’t overplay or oversell; he simply delivers strong songs with clarity, depth, and conviction. His voice carries a weathered, soulful tone that draws listeners in, while his guitar work moves effortlessly between reflective ballads and groove-driven moments that gently raise the energy without ever losing the heart of the song. It’s storytelling-rooted music designed for close listening — which is exactly why he fits so naturally into the Calgary House Concerts environment.
At his previous CHC appearance, something special happened — that quiet shift where a room settles in together. Conversations soften. Phones disappear. Listening deepens. Shared laughter rises at the same time. Jay has that rare ability to guide a room into that shared space. Whether he’s offering a reflective lyric drawn from personal experience or leaning into a roots-rock rhythm that gently lifts the afternoon, he makes the audience feel included in the unfolding story. It’s not a performance at you — it’s a performance with you. Over the years, he has shared stages with respected roots and Americana artists across Western Canada, building his reputation the long way through festivals, intimate listening rooms, songwriter circles, community halls, and regional showcases. Road-tested, dependable, deeply musical, and grounded, he treats every room with the same respect, no matter its size.
This April 19 performance is also part of our ongoing Food Bank Booster initiative, inviting guests to bring non-perishable food donations in support of local community food programs and the Veterans Association Food Bank. Calgary House Concerts has always been about more than presenting live music — it’s about gathering neighbours, supporting artists, and strengthening the social fabric of our communities. Each Food Bank Booster event turns a shared musical experience into tangible support for families and veterans facing food insecurity while reinforcing the simple but powerful idea that culture and care belong in the same room.
When you attend, you’re not just coming to a concert — you’re participating in a community effort that blends culture with care. Join us Sunday, April 19, bring a friend, bring a food donation, and bring your listening ears for an afternoon where live music and neighbourhood connection come together in the best possible way.
Thank you for supporting Live Music in the Community.
